All, I just wanted to say that my thoughts have been on this great loss since I received the news. Cornell was a true hero! I flew many missions with him the first time he was in Iraq and I was always happy to hear that he would be in the cockpit with me. He was one of the best! My prayers have been focused on comfort for all of his loved ones and I continue to pray that everyone who knew him can find peace during these trying times. CW3 Todd O'Donnell

It is a sad day when a hero such as Cornell is lost. It is even worst when that hero is great friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to the Paleriders of OIF 1 who got to know, fly, and live with Cornell. He is a true friend who will be deeply missed. CW3 Jeff Crownover and Family.

Cornell was a great American and a true hero. His long service to the United States and its many allies is a testament to the kind of man he was. In a quote by General Robert E Lee "What a cruel thing is war: to separate and destroy families and friends, and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world; to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world. I will always remember the over two years I flew with Cornell as my CPG in both training and combat in Iraq, I can truely say he made me a better pilot, soldier and man. Our prayers are with Cornell's family and friends these next few weeks as he returns home to California to join the Cavalry troopers in Fiddler's Green. Until we drink again together Cornell....Swede (Bjorn) FIDDLER'S GREEN (Cavalry) Halfway down the trail to hell In a shady meadow green, Are the souls of all dead troopers camped Near a good old-time canteen And this eternal resting place Is known as Fiddler's Green. Marching past, straight through to hell, The infantry are seen, ' Accompanied by the Engineers, Artillery and Marine, For none but the shades of Cavalrymen Dismount at Flddlers' Green. Though some go curving down the trail To seek a warmer scene, No trooper ever gets to Hell Ere he's emptied his canteen, And so rides back to drink again With friends at Fiddlers' Green. And so when man and horse go down Beneath a saber keen, Or in a roaring charge or fierce melee You stop a bullet clean, And the hostiles come to get your scalp, Just empty your canteen, And put your pistol to your head And go to Fiddlers' Green.

To all of Cornell's Family and Friends, The world has lost a remarkably brave warrior and true Cav Trooper. The best of the best I have ever flown with. I feel priveledged to have served with Cornell. Our Country owes him a debt of gratitude and he will never be forgotten. CW4 Carl H. Schoenwald WO, USA

thank you, for showing everyone in the world, what it is to fight for what you believe in. Jesus fought and gave His live for us, He is saving a seat for us in heaven. just as all our troops out there fight for someone! nothing is in-vain, if you believe in it.

Cornell, I will be there when they put you to rest and know your spirit will always be free. I appreciated the time we spent serving together in Germany and Iraq. I was happy when we were on missions together knowing I had a proffessional in the opposite seat with me. I will miss you. Duff

I am a veteran so when I read where any of my military colleagues are injured or killed, I say a prayer and I go on, just as you do. I think about their families and how this has affected them. I thank Cornell for his service and I do the same for each and every Soldier, Sailor and Marine that keeps me free and able to live my life. I have a son in the Navy and though I worry about him, I thank him for serving. I don't know what the future holds but all I can say is God Bless the Military and God Bless the United States of America. I'll close with this, "Cornell, well done faithful servant!!! You may now enjoy your heavenly reward!!"

Word of Cornell's death leaves me at a loss for words. I fondly remember him and all the other crew members I interviewed a little more than three years ago at Camp Anaconda, Iraq. What a great bunch all of you were. And what a sad day this is for me. - Sig Christenson, military writer, San Antonio Express-News (saddamscribe@yahoo.com) .

It’s taken me a few days to bring myself to write anything or to accept this has happened. I have searched for the right words but those who knew Cornell know there are no right words to express how Cornell touched us all. To Cornell’s family I want to express my deepest condolences. To all the gun pilots out there, rest assured Cornell will be there to help get steel on target. To Cornell, my brother, I will miss your infamous “Dude” but I will never forget you. It was an honor to have you as a friend. Rest in peace bro and save me a seat. CW3 Dwayne Childers and Family

Cornell Chao was a tremendous patriot who represented everything that's great about our nation. Extremely bright and talented, Cornell could have been successful at any number of careers. However, he chose the tougher road, and followed his heart into the military. For those of us privileged to fight alongside him, we know it was the right decision for this superb warrior. To his parents, we send our heartfelt condolences. To Cornell, though your time on earth was far too short, you will always live on in our hearts. Well done--be thou at peace. Mike & Dee Barbee

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cornell and his family. May they find peace in these difficult times. Cornell was true warrior and friend, who met his end doing what he loved. We shared many fun and trying times and those memories will always be treasured. From Ft Hood (Golf and Cav Calls), to Germany (golfing and snowboarding), to Poland (oh well. . . . .), to Belgium (The Watermelon at Kliene Brogel) to Iraq (behind the back pistol assembling and DFII), to Graf (fastest LAN setup EVER). . . . All these memories will live forever in the people Cornell came in contact with. See you on the other side, DUDE!!!!! German Sanchez and Family
